‘during’

I live in Southern California where it’s pretty hot during the summer. During the day, the house is warm, particularly because we have some areas with large windows; it’s the greenhouse effect in our own home. Yet everyone is in agreement; the house is hottest at night. It gets humid and really hot at night, even hotter than during the day. Why is this? I’m curious.

I started tomato and pepper seedlings about 2 weeks ago. They are now about 2-3 inches tall. I have a unheated greenhouse and was wondering if it was ok to put the seedlings in the green house during to the day, when i leave in the morning it is in the 30’s and when I get home it is in the 50’s outside. What is the minimum temperature that seedlings can handle? I Live in Maine.

Why would people put large containers of water in root cellars or greenhouses during the winter?
