green house construction?
ok since we moved into this house 7 years ago my mom has been promised a greenhouse from my dad and over the years he has forgotten and my mom wants 1 more than ever so im gonna build her 1. the construction im using is simple ill use 2×4s (its going to be 6×8 feet) every 2 feet ill drop a 2×4 in place they will be burried 18- 24 inches deep depending if the spot i am using has soil or clay(i live in texas) on the walla i plan to use this sticky stuff from the home depot they are sold in rolls of 24 inchesx 100 feet its made of plastic it will not just stick i will use staples from a staple gun i will do this to the incide and outside so theres a wall of warmth bieng trapped inside incase of a cloudy day (also going to be a solar greenhouse)will this greenhouse support plant life here in texas its 10 degrees to 107 degrees
California is attempting to reset the climate clock: have you read or do you plan to read the 132 page report?
The state has issued its plan to slash greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels. The plan would require shrinking the per capita carbon footprint of Californians by an average of four tons per year, using more efficient buildings and appliances, and reducing miles driven by clamping down on urban sprawl. Auto manufacturers would be driven to make cleaner cars, and utilities would need to turn to solar and wind to hike energy efficiency levels.
Your thoughts?

Why is my house hottest during the night?
I live in Southern California where it’s pretty hot during the summer. During the day, the house is warm, particularly because we have some areas with large windows; it’s the greenhouse effect in our own home. Yet everyone is in agreement; the house is hottest at night. It gets humid and really hot at night, even hotter than during the day. Why is this? I’m curious.
Thanks =)
Not in bed….the actual house. As in when sitting at the dinner table, getting a drink in the kitchen, working at my Mac…etc
Greenhouse Stability – Size of Wood to Use?
I’m putting the plans together to build an attached greenhouse that will sit on the south side of my house. It will be a 12′ x 9′ x 10′ structure. I’m using another smaller plan that I saw someone use and modifying it a little bigger. It’s pretty basic. 2, 12′ wide by 10′ tall east and west walls and 1, 9′ wide 10′ tall south wall. The north end will be attached to the side of the house. The roof will rise will rise up an additional 4 foot.
My question is, do I need to use 2×4’s for all of the studs to ensure a firm structure? Smaller houses use smaller wood but I don’t want it to crumble down.
Here is the smaller plan. http://www.buildeazy.com/greenhouse2.html
How do the greenhouse gases trap radiation?
I’m not denying that greenhouse gases don’t trap radiation but no one says anywhere HOW they do.
Also what are the “greenhouse gases”? Is that just another way of saying CFCs?
Trying to find Greenhouses in Northern Indiana?
Im looking for some greenhouses around northern Indiana. I had found some on the internet around the Merrilville, Valparaiso area but cant find them again. Im just south of South Bend and hit all the ones around here. Looking to find others for new things. Dont like to order online cause your not always guaranteed on what your getting. Mostly looking for hostas but looking for other perrenials.
I am looking for info. on a house that was built out of all recycled materials. It was called a Greenhouse.?
There was a show, I think it was on Discovery Channel, that featured a home built entirely of recycled materials. We have some interest in homes that are composed of recycled or natural materials. If anyone has any info on these types of homes, we would love to hear from you!
Electric bicycle experiences?
I recently ordered an electric bicycle:
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200333249_200333249?cm_sp=Customer%20driven-_-Recently%20Viewed-_-Product%20Page
for my commute to and from work. It’s about 13 miles each way and takes me about an hour on my regular hybrid bike. Making this ride twice a day can wear me out by the end of the week, particularly since I often have to go against a stiff headwind. Plus it’s gotten as hot as 108°F this summer during my ride home.
Basically I’d like to cut down on the time and work it takes to make this trip, while still getting exercise and minimizing my greenhouse gas emissions. I should be able to recharge the batteries at work, so that will prevent them from getting discharged much more than halfway. I did some research, and this particular bike seemed fine and is relatively very cheap.
So I was wondering if anyone with some electric bike experiences had any tips about electric bikes and biking.
Grizz – Price is most certainly an object, which is why I went with the $350 electric bike. While it’s certainly quite heavy, it can also go 15 mph even without pedalling (and I will be pedalling). Also 18-25 miles/charge (probably close to 25 since I’ll be pedalling), and I only need 13. Thanks for the links though. I certainly wish money was no object!
Are there good free blue print (for home additions) sites tha you know of?
Do you have any good ideas for building a greenhouse?
